POSTCARDS from COUNSELLORS

Amanda's Story

 a._godfrey_2.jpg

I had an amazing time at camp, words cannot explain how good it was. As much as I felt homesick at  times while at camp, since being home I miss it so much. The kids are just amazing, they look up to you and want to know everything about your life in Australia. I'm only young myself but my mother instincts in me just came out and i didnt even know I had them.

From sitting beside a camper in the nurse's office during the night while they were unwell, to making sure they all brushed their teeth morning and night, to saying good night to them every night and waking them up every morning and the hardest of all saying goodbye to them on Saturdays whether they were leaving the camp for the season or they were just going to stay in the weekend room and you didnt see them till Sunday morning having a night off... you'd never believe how much you'd miss them and they would all come running to you to tell you all about their day with out you.

All the kids want to know are you coming back next year, when will they see you again....? To just have that impact on someone’s life is incrediable, you grow so close to them.

I took alot of Australian souvenirs to give away to all my campers and they just loved them. Even at the end of camp I gave away all my clothes that i didnt want to travel with and they just loved them and were fighting over taking things because they just admire you so much.

I had a blast and it gave me the best opportunity to travel around the states after and also meet some amazing new friends (other Staff). I would definatly love to do it again and its some thing I will NEVER forget.
