After The Interview...
Once you've followed all the instructions your interviewer has given you, and you've paid your first payment, completed your Programme Application, sent your references and police check off, you'll be able to check the progress of your application through the Camp America Direct site. But here's a brief overview of what happens...
- Your Application is assessed by Camp America - We assess your skills and experience noted in your application and set your pocket money rate.
At this time you'll also be asked (via Camp America Direct) to confirm your personal details which will be used for your visa application at a later date. - Your application is viewed by prospective camps - Via our online system, over 900 camps throughout the US will have the opportunity to review and possibly offer you a position.
- A placement is offered with a summer camp! - Your camp has selected you. We'll let you know via Camp America Direct, so you can log on and confirm your placement, and make your next payment.
We suggest you directly contact your camp director, to let them know you are excited about working with them, and to discuss any details of your placement (You'll be able to see all of these details on the ‘Placement' section of Camp America Direct). - Apply for your visa - Once you're final payments are made, you'll receive a package from us containing your J-1 visa papers, visa instructions, your medical form (which your Doctor will need to complete) your Participant's Handbook (which will be your bible for the summer!!!) and instructions how to book your US Consulate appointment.
Everyone who applies for a J-1 visa MUST attend an in-person interview at their designated consulate. Residents of NSW, QLD and ACT will attend the Sydney Consulate, VIC, SA, and TAS will attend the Melbourne Consulate, and WA will attend the Perth Consulate. - Leaving on a jet plane...
Once your placement is confirmed, you can book your flights to the US.
